I don’t know about you, but with all that’s been going on in 2016 so far, I can’t help but feel that the human race is going back in time, rather than going forward.
First of all, the UK left the European Union, which I always felt (and still do) was something that was really great for Europe, and it was a step forward into a brighter future. It was a step away from us fighting against each other. Now we’ve left the EU, there have been more reported cases of racial attacks against groups of people in the UK, which is really disgusting. I didn’t vote to leave, but I’m sure those who did vote to leave didn’t do so to encourage this kind of behavior.
Similar things can be said for the USA right now. With all the racial attacks going on right now, whether it’s the police or gun violence or verbal abuse, it just seems like all the fighting people did over the last century for freedom and equal rights was for nothing. How can people still be so arrogant, and angry, and racist? The only way we can move forward as people is by accepting everyone. And we shouldn’t have to accept everyone because “we have to”, but because that’s the right thing to do. Who cares if someone’s Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Sikh, Atheist, if someone’s black, white, yellow or blue? We’re all people and with the way things seem to be going at the moment, it honestly wouldn’t surprise me if we all ended up killing each other.
We all know that as a human race, we often find it difficult to agree with each other. Just look at our entire history. But we don’t need to make things more difficult. We’re already halfway through 2016, we should be seeking ways to become more equal with each other, not finding ways to differentiate each other further. This also leads me to the whole “Immigrants are stealing our jobs” argument. Immigrants are not stealing your jobs. Did it not occur to you that they may in fact have more skills than you? Or maybe they are more qualified? Maybe they used to be a doctor? Maybe they were at the top of their class? Maybe they can speak three times as many languages as you can? Furthermore, what’s wrong with a little culture? That’s one of the reasons I love travelling and why I want to travel. I want to experience as many different cultures as possible because I think it’s exciting and you can learn so much about other communities, and it can widen your world knowledge too.
If Donald Trump is elected to become President of the United States, I think I honestly will have lost all faith in humanity. I know I’m not an American, but to all the Americans who may be reading this, please don’t waste your vote on Trump. He’s not going to make America great again. If anything, he’ll make it a hell of a lot worse, and we’ll go back in time even further. No one realised how scary this guy could be, and now that his chances of becoming president are even more likely, it’s really hit home what could happen if people vote for the wrong choice. I mean, no one thought Britain would actually leave the EU, and now look! And loads of them didn’t really think about their vote when they voted. Don’t let the same thing happen to you, America!
Basically, my point is that we need to continue to prove that equality exists, and is important, and that people like Trump are just stupid millionaires who don’t know the first thing about humanity. I know there are always going to be people like him, but if we can keep on proving that the world is a decent place, then maybe, just maybe, we can start moving forward.
