I saw this image on Facebook earlier and it made me really angry. I want you to take a look at it and see why:
If you don’t know who the person on the bottom image is, she is Caitlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce Jenner). The Jenner’s and the Kardashian’s are people who I don’t really care much about, but I do care about equality and I support the LGBT community. Why? Because we are all people and deserve the same treatment.
The reason this image makes me so annoyed is because this person who created this image clearly doesn’t understand the amount of bravery it takes someone to not only come out as they are to their family and friends, but also to the whole world. Caitlyn is brave, and she doesn’t have to have been in the army to be defined as “brave”. It’s ridiculous that in our society today, people are still saying things like in the image above, yet half the time they say they believe in equality… It just doesn’t make sense!
There are different types of bravery- fighting in a war is definitely brave, but so is Caitlyn Jenner and everyone else in her position around the world. So in the future, don’t say that someone isn’t brave because it isn’t the same sort of bravery that you believe in. Courage can be a difficult thing to find, whether it’s coming out, being a soldier, or even achieving something personal, like overcoming a fear of heights!
